How researchers in Nigeria push for better healthcare for urban slums
What plans does Nigeria have for the health of its growing urban slum population?
The CHORUS team at the Health Policy Research Group, University of Nigeria have been working towards strengthening urban health systems to be more responsive to the needs of the urban poor. For the CHORUS project, they have focused on the poor that reside in urban slum areas, and have examined the types of health services and providers that are accessible and frequented within urban slums in Enugu. As many urban slum residents use informal health providers, such as bone setters and traditional birth attendants, we need to examine how to improve the services of these providers and link them to the formal health provision. This video details how the team have been working with all stakeholders to co-design interventions that develop linkages for improved quality of care and a strengthened urban health system for urban slum dwellers.
